MUP Episode 171 – Beware of Sebek’s Minions!

This episode Jon and Murph talk about Sebek’s servitors, the Petesouchi! This episode of the Miskatonic University Podcast is also proudly sponsored by Pelgrane Press and Squamous Studios! Also, a huge thanks to Sean for editing this episode. Please join the discussions on MUP’s Discord Channel.

Lovecraft created his “shadowy congeners” because the stories of vampires, werewolves, and ghosts had become too familiar. Now, his own monstrous races seem like comfortable story furniture too.

In Hideous Creatures: A Bestiary of the Cthulhu Mythos for the Trail of Cthulhu RPG, Pelgrane Press brings the horror back to Lovecraft’s monsters, blurring boundaries and erasing certainties in the name of the uncanny. These creatures are adventures by themselves, leaving physical traces, occult clues and madness in their eldritch wake.

Hideous Creatures: A Bestiary of the Cthulhu Mythos features 31 full creature write-ups, including nine mythos monsters that have never taken stat-block form in any game! Get 10% off the pre-order in the Pelgrane Press webstore with the voucher code MISKUPOD2019.

Keep your eyes peeled for Arkham Relic Hunt, coming to Kickstarter on May 2, 2019, from Squamous Studios. In this new tabletop card game, players are cultist acolyte in servitude to a dark god as they scour through the darkest corners of Arkham looking for relics and new initiates that must be delivered to the dark god.

Arkham Relic Hunt is a competitive card game for 2 – 4 cultists, designed by Damon Gregory. Acolytes gain points by moving through Arkham, discovering relics and new initiates for your order, casting spells, and sabotaging other players. The cultist with the most points, wins!

Campus Crier

The Campus Crier is Miskatonic U’s student paper. Here’s where we go through Mythos related news and feedback to the podcast. This episode was recorded on April 11, 2019.

  • Michael O’Brien (MOB) was banned from the Yog-Sothoth-dot-com (YSDC) forum because of his posts on a memorial thread for WH Pugmire.  Allegedly, MOB posted comments about how much Pugmire liked the CoC game community, mentions that Chaosium published some of his fiction, and expresses regrets that Chaosium didn’t work more with him. Paul of Cthulhu, (owner and moderator of YSDC), posted that it was in bad taste to promote Chaosium in the thread. Soon, Paul declared the subject closed, and after MOB posted again in his defense, Paul banned him from the forum.

  • Focus Home Interactive and Chaosium has announced that they will be entering into a 10 year exclusive agreement to create game adaptations for the Call of Cthulhu franchise.

  • Mike Mason took up his role of Keeper of Arcane Lore for the players at Penny Arcade Originally on Twitch we have included a link to the YouTube version.

  • After the announcement of Chaosium’s acquisition of John Wick Presents, you can now purchase 1st edition and 2nd edition books of 7th Sea from Chaosium on the DriveThruRPG website.

  • After 2301 days… or, 6 years, 3 months, & 20 days… or, 75 months, & 20 days, Murph has received his Miskatonic River Press Punktown book! The Kickstarter funded on Dec 19, 2012; making this Kickstarter almost as old as the podcast. Murph never expected to see it in the flesh. And, it seems to be a well-laid out book. He’s not had the time to really delve into it, but it looks nice.

  • First photograph of a black hole! Dr. Katie Bouman and a team of over 200 scientists working with The Event Horizon Telescope has captured the world’s first image of a black hole. This thing looks like the eye of Azathoth! Dr. Katie Bouman’s TED talk.

Jacek Brzezowski introduced the Keepers to the Delta Green Utility app on the MUP Discord.  Jacek said, “I’m not the author but there was a thread about it on YSDC, and I find it very useful and visually pleasing. It’s a must have for any Delta Green Handler and so I’d imagine lot of your listeners will be interested in this.”
