We've got 30 mercenaries. I'm sure one of them can teach you a thing or two.

The captain of your mercenary guard, a man named Falcrest, steps forward. "I hadn't wanted to speak out of turn sires, but there is ample space outside of town, and if you have enough coin somewhere within the city. There is a man named Scrothers that deals with property issues of these sorts. We can lead you to him if you like. His office isn't far from here now."

Falcrest speaks a few silent words of order to his men and then motions for you to follow him, "This way, sires." He leads you into The Grand Bazaar. There is more people and trade happening here than many of you have ever seen. The Bazaar is massive and it seems that there are alleyways formed throughout by the copious amounts of vendors that have set up carts, tents, or pavilions within. You pass by merchants selling everything from weaponry, to jewelry, to food. There are spice merchants next to book dealers, rat-killers next to brothels, and each with it's own flamboyant colors and proprietor outside hawking their wares.

It takes almost thirty minutes for your party to make it's way through the chaos even with the advantage of an armed escort. Falcrest stops in front of a small shopfront on the south-west side of the Bazaar. Not a tent or cart like you had seen so much of, this is an actual building along the outside edge. Above the door is a gilded sign that reads:
Scothers House
of
Contracts, Properties,
and
Occasional Law
"This is it sires", proclaims Falcrest.

You have seen buildings of the same style before but mainly in books on Europe. The store has windows which has been painted over grey not allowing you to see inside. On the left of Smothers' and another ten meters further is a door for a rather busy restaurant that seems to be rather selective about their clientele. To the right is the office of the "Merchants Guild of Spicers."

Alright, we can't have none of these outbursts while meeting Mr. Scrothers [Is that correct? Given that the name on the door says Smothers?], so let's decide on what kind of compound we want before entering. I'd prefer living in the town, but I wouldn't mind outside if it's a clearly better property. I'm thinking separate wings with all appropriate rooms, bedrooms, study, library, et c. for all of us, defensible position (possibly with a wall and moat), a banquet hall, quarters for both staff and a house guard, so that we can store some of our gold there, perhaps a bath house. What do y'all want? Stables? An archery range?

[Turning to Falcrest:] Captain, I want your expertise in determining which compounds are most easily defended.

Can I just put a bit of a reality check on here? [Excuses the pun]. But are we planning to set up here for a long time? Do we perceive any major solid threat? Since we have the money I'm not too bothered but maybe we should be conversing with other well to do types and the ruling class to understand how everything runs here? Aren't we trying to get back to NYC?

Maybe this Emon Tharr is a good first point of contact?? Who's got that blue sword??

[All said prior to entering the building]

But while we are here we may as well get cracking.

As always guys I'll stand around looking fat and important and someone else can strike a deal :o)

Surely you're joking? Any major solid threat? How about all of the people trying to kill us when we arrived? How about the people we took the damn boat from? Pardon me, I shouldn't be using this kind of a language in front of the lady. That trader we traded with, he seemed pretty keen on the rest of our ass rubies, who knows what he'll do to get them? Our collector friend here, wasn't all to keen on coming here in the first place. Also, we're rich. Who knows what kind of Communists are here, just waiting for any opportunity to assassinate us and take everything we own.

In short, yes, there are many solid threats. Let's make staying alive our number one priority.

I have the blue sword, but I think it is the fancy sword you're looking for.

I want sword training, clothing I can use to hide my identity, light rope, a folding grapple, a set of burglary tools, lock picks, and a glass cutter.

Well then, let's go in and buy us a property, so that we can send errand boys to get you those things!

I have a wonderful idea! Once we have our fantastic estate, with the banquet room, we could have Rufus carve a statue of our great leader Beauregard! And since girth is the ultimate measure of success he could eat it and surpass Wentworth as our big titular leader. We should also get someone to look for communists under the bed.
