I just got done reading Sgt. Janus Spirit Breaker by Jim Beard. While not Lovecraftian, its a good lot of short stories dealing with ghosts and other spirits. I recommend it!

I'm now starting Chaosium's collection of Lin Carter's tales: The Xothic Legend Cycle. I've been wanting to read this for a while and got a good deal on it.

I definitely consider time spent reading a good blog unwasted.

I'm about to crack open an old book I picked up second hand for a dime called "Echoes From the Macabre," by Daphne du Maurier.

Not sure how far I'll get as I don't know a thing about it, but if it's any good I'll be sure to let you guys know. If not, I doubt you'll hear another peep out of me about it.

Holy crap! I just found out that this collection of short stories contains a copy of "The Birds," later adapted by Alfred Hitchcock. Perhaps this short anthology isn't quite as obscure as I originally assumed.
Also, I did some light research just now, and found out that Daphne Du Maurier is a contemporary of Lovecraft's. Born in 1907 she started writing in the 20's. I'm quite excited to crack this baby open!

That book looks awesome man. I need to go to more used bookstores & flea markets to find gems like that.

The Electric Executioner by H. P. Lovecraft and Adolphe de Castro.
In the morning, mist comes up from the sea by the cliffs beyond Kingsport. White and feathery it comes from the deep to its brothers the clouds, full of dreams of dank pastures and caves of leviathan.

Jimmy The Kid by Donald Westlake. I think it's the third of eleven in the Dortmunder series.

du Maurier writes some good creepy stuff! Check out "The Apple Tree" for an atmospheric ghost story, or "Monte Verita" if you prefer cults. If you enjoy her short stories and want something longer, check out "Rebecca."

I'm out of the drama circuit due to a back injury, so I have a chance to finally read something that's not a script! I'm going to tuck into "The Book of Cthulhu II," courtesy of the fine folks here. :)

Ok, so my reading list is always pretty full as I tend to read a lot of short stories and so forth, but here goes.

Short Stories
This is a list of the short stories I will read next, they are based on chronological order. Except in the case of HPL where I follow the HPL Literary Podcast order and listen to the particular podcast after reading the story.

REH
Solomon Kane: Solomon Kane
Solomon Kane stories in order, just got this collection, so haven't started it yet.

Shadow Kingdoms: Wolfshead
REH fantasy in original publication order. Skipping any Solomon Kane and Conan stuff. There are 10 books in this series, I have the first 2 as paperback, but I intend to get the HC copies when I have time/money.

Conan: The God In The Bowl
I'm reading Conan in the Dark Storm chronology by Dale Rippke, as it's pure REH and no shitty L. Sprague de Camp "improvements". The collection I have is based on the original prints, not edited by the afore mentioned asshat. It's from Fantasy Masterworks, tho I have the Big Black Book from Collancz as well, which is the 2 volumes from the Masterworks combined in a nice HC copy in the same series as the HPL Big Black Books.

HPL
Arthur Jermyn (or Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family), this is for HPL literary podcast, so I'm not very far, it's like episode 12 or something.

CAS
The Door To Saturn, Hyperborea in chronological order.

RWC
The Repairer Of Reputations, The King In Yellow in chronological order.

Leiber
Complete Lankhmar. Not yet started.

Vance
The Complete Dying Earth, only started the first story.

Moorcock
Elric: The Making Of A Sorcerer. If only I could get this cheaper than Amazon is selling it for, £20 for a 4 issue TPB is not my idea of fun. (I have a digital copy I borrowed from one of my millions of internet friends :P )
This is also part of the chronological order project, but it's a pain as it includes comics (like this one), short stories and such.

Actual books
Scifi: Use Of Weapons by Iain M. Banks. So bummed to hear he only has a few months to live

Fantasy: Homeland - The Legend of Drizzt, book 1 by R.A. Salvatore (read this when it came out as a big fan of Forgotten Realms, now I have the first 2 trilogies as these nice gift sets).

Spy: Casino Royale by Ian Fleming, this is part of my chronological order project, only with Bond and only Fleming stories.

Non-fiction: Death By Black Hole by Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Comics
The Chronicles of Solomon Kane, Dark Horse collection of 70s and 80s Kane stories.

Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd And The Grey Mouser, Dark Horse collection of Chaykin' & Mignola' comics.

The James Bond Omnibus 001, Titan Books collection of daily Bond strips.

Mouse Guard - Fall 1152 by David Petersen. Mouse action!

RPGs
Burning Wheel, fantasy roleplaying system by Luke Crane. Just to find out what it's about, doubt I'll ever run it.

Mongoose RuneQuest II - Core Rulebook. Will most likely use this for the next campaign I'll run... which brings us to...

Mongoose RuneQuest II - Vikings. I'm still waiting for plenty of other material, but this is the start.

I have been re-reading a lot of HPL since I started playing. It's been several years since I read them, and it has been really fun re-discovering them.

Other than that, I have been reading a bunch of non-fiction:

Mind of the Raven: Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds by Bernd Heinrich, which is frankly fascinating. Ravens are the Chimpanzees of the bird world.

The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective, by Kate Summerscale. This would be good reading for anyone running an 1880s campaign, it explores in minute detail one of the first murder investigations that sparked media interest. Lots of good details about life in Victorian London and how people dealt with being confronted by the grisly and Macabre.
“The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense.”
