Episode 97 brings together Keepers Jon, Murf, Dan and special guest, Keeper Badger! We cover news and a Bestiary where we talk about the charismatic side of the squidgy goop monsters, the Shoggoth Lord!
This episode was recorded on March 28, 2016.

This episode is a long time coming. We originally had 97 in the can back in February, but that audio was completely hosed. Then we had scheduling issues to get back together for re-recording. We're still not completely free of the gremlins, as you'll hear in the audio half way though. New hardware is being appraised to fix this. Chad was actually on the original recording with Badger, but sadly he was unavailable for the re-do. But Murf was able to come in and make it a cast of four on this one.

Great Gloopy Episode....
If religion were true, its followers would not try to bludgeon their young into an artificial conformity; but would merely insist on their unbending quest for truth, irrespective of artificial backgrounds or practical consequences.

Great show & topics.

A few thoughts that came to mind that I'm surprised you didn't get with the shoggoth lord in how it evolved is that one of the rogue shoggoths that happened with the first uprising, if they were absorbed (by another shoggoth) instead of killed/magic into being helpless or inert protoplasm, absorb enough of the rebellious ones & boom shoggoth lord. Another would be that they found some mythos tome or spell & well when you can hit the right notes or do the spell with extra arms, a spell like attract fish takes on a whole new layered meaning when you have the POW & extra abilities to amplify a spell, again pick the right one & boom to evolve. Third idea would be that it wound up against some other mythos thing than what they're used to, can a insect from shaggai pop into a shoggoth or a mi-go get absorbed? Get the wrong monster nearby & when it accidentally gets absorbed instead of crushed, evolution might happen.

I like the idea of the shoggoth lord being a serial killer wanting to be left alone. Another thought with the shoggoth splitting into three lords would be that they might get along fine but when they get closer together the mind/memories start to blur together. So the farther apart they are, the more individualistic they are so to keep their identities but when they get closer together the memories or favorite human forms might switch out elements used by the appearance of the shoggoth lord B (so shoggoth lord A human form might get some appearance changes with shoggoth lord B human form like different eye color, height, etc. ). Maybe if they get closer together the human forms start blurring together into some morphed version of their human forms.

Also good was the idea from Star Trek where the appearance is dependent on the viewer & expanding on the idea, the shoggoth lord picks someone mentally that the viewer knows but not something too familiar as it doesn't want to interact with the viewer, just blend into the background. Still might be a problem with some movie history buff/professional who starts swearing that they saw some extra or b-list actor nearby when the news puts them on the other side of the country shooting one film.

Another fun thing would be the shoggoth lord going off the idea of hiding by a crowd of people on a subway/bus, the viewer always sees the same crowd of people very closer together. Get closer to find that there is some spot on a person where they are always connected to another one (holding hands, a child in someone's arms, legs touching, etc.), wouldn't be too bad until you see how they all have the same facial features or simultaneously moving their head the same way at the same time.

Can't wait to read the free RPG book from Chaosium & the new Age of Cthulhu book. Seeing the art closer, the artist might have gone with something a little darker on the skin of the beast as the other eyes are a bit harder to spot.

The Shoggoth Lord discussion was thought provoking.

As a New Zealander, I am somewhat honor bound to mention that Sydney is not spelt Sidney.
