Austrian National Library

Post by Koakai » Wed Feb 11, 2015 5:35 pm

The Austrian national library has a large number of digitized books, manuscripts and other fun things online. I only learned this when I saw the link for the 'Vampires of Serbia' that I shared in the Orne Library.

One of the things they have is papyri fragments. Over 4000 of them that they have digitized.

They are in a wide range of conditions, but some have early christian magic spells or charms on them.

A fragment with a partial drawing of a hound. Perhaps something from Tindalos?

A fragment of a drawing of a head.

Badly decayed papyrus but it has a drawing of a demon on it.

Related but not from that site. A german book on Coptic writings and egyptian magic, containing a few of these drawings as plates.

Down another rabbit hole, there is this book I might have to print and bind a copy for myself. Something that an intrepid investigator of the occult might find in a bookshop when looking for texts. An english translation of egyptian texts.

Do these links work for anyone? Can someone take screenshots and post those instead? I'm not sure where these links are sending me, but it's not to described images.

Sorry John. It is taking you to the catalog page. The image is the bottom most link on that page. Next to Digitales Objekt
The link to the image itself goes into javascript so I was unsure it would paste correctly.
Such as below:

javascript:open_window("http://aleph.onb.ac.at:80/F/A8FIEGM9X8X ... type=MEDIA");
