The New York city library not only has a great collection of photos and maps to use they are now releasing a metric crap ton of the maps for use by anyone that wants to use them.
They have said that the maps are believed to have no known copyright. But NYPL is distributing these images under a Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.

Instructions are on the site for how to download the maps it uses a map wrapper program of somekind.

Enjoy!
