A Victim Of The Art 07 & 08

Post by Shannon Mac » Thu Aug 21, 2014 12:01 pm

Jim has been busy so I'm posting part 8 from my Dropbox for listeners:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0vh8ho4l87ei8 ... -09-44.mp3

It doesn't look like he posted 07 but you can find it here:

http://www.cthulhu.me/search/label/A%20 ... 0the%20Art

A dark decision was made by Randall's character :ghost: in part 09 which was several hours ago. More on that later, I suppose.

I suspect 2-4 more sessions to complete this Platinum Extended Edition scenario. :accept:

AS there is a lack of threads about the last episodes can I ask what the Kittens in jars were? I may have had a brain fart just and zoned out during the explanation but I'm intrigued!

After the site crashed we lost the automated posting of our releases. I forgot to ask Shannon the same question but I have a suspicion.

SPOILERS POTENTIALLY (from an email thread with the Skype Lads)

Randall: I enjoyed the M12 confrontation. That was a nice touch.

Shannon: They don't always show up like that but yeah that was a fun outcome. Thanks, Randall.

Max: So was there a ritual to dispel the Ayapa and if so who knew it/had it?

Shannon: Yes. It was implied in the vague notes of the grandfather of Thomas. The lad, who Randall smothered with a pillow, could have been prompted to look for it and perform it.

I think only 1 of the 5 groups did that. Another group killed the Ai Apa in the daytime mostly through great luck. A third group did what your group did but faster. The fifth group (which I refer to as the slow sandbox group) is still playing.

Max: Ahhhh that's what I thought I remembered you saying. I think we only talked about the ritual in that it was in the original text where Dengler knew all about it....

It will be interesting to see where the long sandbox crew takes it

Shannon: The informants/spies for MJ-12 were the Scully and Mulder lookalikes. One group that did the ritual were suspicious of them and sent the two off on a wild goose chase. As a result they didn't really "meet" MJ-12 as your group did.

This 5th group is definitely going to meet MJ-12. The game is set up in a manner in which more people become infected as each day passes and MJ-12 is more likely to show up, too.

But, that's part of the fun as well.

Gary: What were the kittens in a jar?

Shannon: Implants into the stomach and then they claw their way out ALIEN style.

On a bad break (99-100)I was thinking reality gets warped and the area is taken to Carcosa or something similar.

Gary: Cool, my guess wasn't far off then. I had the feeling about the whole aliens bit. Just not the other twist. I like it.

Shannon: Glad you liked it.

Nice! Had wondered just, it almost felt Paranoia-esque in its surreal weapon like quality! Had almost expected the kitten to grow into giant mutant kitten but stomach burrowing is actually more horrific!

Thanks.

I thought of an overgrown kitten but that might have made it too comical or pulpy. Another option was to give one player cat like abilities but again that was too pulpy . .. especially with the expected Majestic 12 confrontation. Can you see one player moving cat like upon them and sneak attacking or leaping up in the air 10 to 20 feet? I think it would have broken the genre expectations even if I liked the ideas.

So the kitten being inside of a PC was like an invasive pregnancy (especially if you're male since it's technically impossible ) and having it burrow out seemed fitting. I could foresee it being used by agents of Bast from the Dreamlands but the knowledge was lost and Delta Green stumbled upon it and maybe they had that bad break of reality hence the warning to only use by the coast. Really, at the time I said that I didn't know what it would do and since the session was going to end in a few minutes I figured I'd just let my subconscious play around with it for a couple of weeks.

This particular run was more purist or little purist as I call it b/c big purist would have been more terrifying and gritty. Players knew the Ai Apa was hunting one of them per evening but they at least had the means to end being its prey. In a big purist game I'd say there would have been almost no options. Even if they left the area the Ai Apa would just appear since Earth is one of the many realms it simply travels to much as we walk down a hallway to open another door.

Speaking of which if anyone wants to know the stats for the Ai Apa and how I changed it let me know.

Another possibility would be that the investigator hears a meow. It starts off just just once. But then as time goes on another meow for awhile longer. And so it goes until all they can hear is meow accompanied by sanity rolls.
The kittens are made by blessing the kitten to Bast, then almost drowning the kitten. At that almost point of death they can be suspended. Then when it is released the soul of a vengeful innocent animal's soul is cursed upon the nearest person. Poe's The Black Cat was more factual than first thought...

That could work, too.

I probably could have made the scenario last another 2 sessions or so but I had promised I'd wrap it up so that we could move on to Tremulus and other scenarios.

If that had been the case I would have used the kitten in the jar of liquid more purposefully. ;)
