Qsts about COLD PRINT and SHADOWS OVER BAKER STREET

Post by Shannon Mac » Wed Mar 05, 2014 12:38 pm

I just got to these two books (they've been on the shelf borrowed from the library).

I read "The Insects from Shagghai" and enjoyed it. That's from COLD PRINT.

Assuming you all have read either what were some of your favorite tales?

Note that I posted this on Facebook as well (for those on my FB).

Two amazing books.

In Cold Print, my favorite is "The Inhabitant of the Lake". Hands down my favorite Campbell story (I just re-read it the other day). "The Moon Lens" is good too.

As for Shadows Over Baker Street, its been a while since I've read it but "A Study in Emerald" is a definite read.

To be honest, the best Campbell stories aren't in Cold Print, just his most Lovecraftian ones. I feel a lot of people miss out on some really good horror from Ramsey Campbell by ignoring all the non-mythos work. If you like modern horror and like that book, really consider checking out Alone with the Horrors or Needing Ghosts.

As for the stories in Cold Print, my overall favorite has got to be "The Voice of the Beach", a true classic.

I am lukewarm at best towards SOBS. Most of the stories were underwhelming for me.

I will need to track down COLD PRINT again. It was a library book and there is only one in the county far away. I read one story and sort of liked it so I'd rather track it down than buy it at this point.

Thanks for the help.
