PC/NPC Library: Any Interest?

Post by Scriven » Fri Nov 28, 2014 1:11 pm

This is an edit of an earlier post I put up this morning. I'd foolishly overlooked the "Character Creation" section of the forum and forgot that the basic need for a place to house a character library has already been met. What I'm going to advocate for -- cheerlead for -- is more participation. I'll lead by example by posting a few characters this weekend.

My thought is that each entry into the character library could have as its subject line this kind of format: DESCRIPTOR/PROFESSION for quick and easy reference. E.g. Streetwise Police Detective, Bookish Museum Curator, Sleazy Hotel Clerk, Intimidating Dock Worker, or Secretive Bookstore Owner. Each entry would be fully statted out with appropriate skill builds, lists of possessions, character history and such.

An added bonus might be suggestions about how a Keeper could use the character as an NPC adversary or ally of the investigators, interesting details or even potential plot hooks. For example, our Intimidating Dock Worker might have notes to this effect: "Joe O'Malley is widely respected on the Arkham Waterfront as someone who looks out for the interests of his fellow dock workers, but also feared as a man with enormous strength and temper. Rumor has it that he killed a man a who had been poking his nose into dockworkers' business after a couple of crates of merchandise disappeared off a cargo skiff a year or two ago. They never found a body, though. Nothing happens near the river that Joe doesn't know about. Despite his enormous build and imposing demeanor, however, this giant of a man refuses to go anywhere near the old warehouse at the end of Pier 23, and he's never told anyone why or what he saw there one night in 1923 -- not without quite a few drinks in him first, at least."

My hope is that we would eventually get enough entries to include these in Cephalophobia, or publish them as a separate, stand-alone MUP supplement.

Seconded! Have been wishing for this for many months, but too lazy to initiate. Thanks for the push!
