You guys mentioned some sample pages of Jon's scenario, but I can't seem to see the link in the show notes. Could you possibly direct me to their location?

As fun as an actual puzzle is, my concern with using them is that it takes the skill away from the character and puts it onto the player. For instance, your character may have an INT of 40 and yet because you as a player can solve the puzzle, they then survive. Unless it was previously explained that they were an idiot savant with a knack for puzzles, this doesn't make much sense from a role-playing perspective.

I agree. And thats why I wouldn't have done something like a cryptographic puzzle, which requires specialized knowledge. (Well thats not true,I would do that, but I am still working out how)

But that is also why every minute I let them make an Idea roll - on a success they got to flip over 1 block to see its position, hard success was 2 blocks, extreme success 3, and critical success 4. I also paused the timer as they looked. There was also a way for the other PCs to add a minute to the timer by finding a switch in another room (which they did).

This isn't something I do very often, but in this case it worked fabulously well.
