Re: Favourite Lovecraft story?
I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and say "The Rats in the Walls" -- it's got that eerie gothic sensibility that evokes something of Poe, but is wholly Lovecraftian in the way it plays with the narrator's rapid descent under the weight of his lineage's cognitive and physiological degeneracy. I...

Re: MUP Yearbook/Newsletter
Hey guys. Any talk yet about the next issue of Cephalaphobia? A call for submissions for example. Yeah, we are definitely going to do another Cephalophobia -- bigger, better and sexier. But we've got to get a few other things out of the production queue first -- mostly stuff from the Indiegogo camp...

How are Ghouls Made?
Gonna show my ignorance here, but . . . how exactly are ghouls made? What effects the transformation from a human being into a ghoul? I know that there is a certain "pedagogical" aspect to this (e.g. "The Lesson" painting in "Pickman's Model"), but above and beyond that, how does it happen? Can anyb...

Re: Who Would You Want Most At Your Table?
1. Umberto Eco, who brings the scholarly erudition and pop-culture sensibility 2. Stephen King, who brings the masterful eye for character 3. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who combines the flair for rational investigation and the open-mindedness for a good paranormal mystery. 4. Fritz Leiber, simply becau...

Re: Google+
Jon, I thought you had trouble using Google Hangouts with your computer. If that's not the case, maybe we should consider moving Dan's MAPS games away from Skype and onto Hangouts? Or maybe that would interfere with the recording. Any thoughts?

Failure as a Modifier in Skill Advancement
I love how character progression in CoC is mediated by skill improvement, versus the leveling system in other games. At the same time, I sometimes wish that the skill advancement mechanic somehow managed to accommodate failure as well as success as a learning opportunity when determining chances for...

Re: MU Podcast 056 - Boundaries and the Sire of Serpents
I appreciated the "on-air" discussion about boundaries, guys. I don't consider myself a prude when it comes to horror in horror gaming, so I hope my initial query didn't come off that way. For that matter, I sincerely hope that's never been the impression I've given to those on these forums with who...

Re: Basing scenarios off of Lovecraft stories
I've always felt that "Rats in the Walls" would have made a good scenario as a true "party oriented" adventure, but only provided the players were wholly ignorant of the story itself, and that's a tall order if one is playing with Lovecraft enthusiasts. Given the ending to that particular story (wit...

Re: The MU Podcast IndieGogo Campaign is LIVE!
Less than 24 hours into the campaign, and as of 10:40 CT it's only $50 away from meeting its primary funding goal of $1,000. Holy crap. I've said it before, I'll say it again . . . the MUP fanbase is freaking AWESOME! All of you guys rock!
