There is another things Sears catalogs can be used for, reputedly Judge Roy Bean (Wikipedia) reputedly used one to determine what a miscreants fine would be, after one trial the accused was heard to say he was lucky the judge had opened the catalog to 'pants' rather than 'pianos'!
