I've been meaning to ask this for a while.
Is it possible that one of the whispered words in the intro to the Lovecraft Word of the *indeterminate time period* is 'monkey' ?
If so, when will we hear that episode ?

I can't actually remember what words we used. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Paul's wife, Lucy, joined us, and the four of us just grabbed random selections from the Sanity Quiz in the back of the 7th edition rulebook. You may be able to hear a sinister whisper of the word "gambrel" in there, for example. Pure horror.
*Note: This will never happen, unless it's just 45 minutes of me repeating how much I hate that bloody story.
When I was younger I did not know what the word meant (English being my second language and all), so I just thought of it as a sinister quality roofs could have. It also became part of the Lovecraftian 'word-hypnosis', which i think of as the literary equivalent of looking at swirling psychedelic colors.

I don't think that this is a 'second language' issue! I didn't know what it meant either. Scott - this should definitely be on the list.
Also, Tore, I like your description of 'word-hypnosis', that about sums it up.

How about "mansard?" Just last weekend I was delighted during a CoC session to have the opportunity to describe what a mansard roof looks like.

Mansard? I have no idea.
I could google it of course, but then what would be the point of a discussion forum!
